Banner Forest Heritage Park Hike, walk the dog, hunt for mushrooms, or grab your mountain bike and go! With 635 acres to roam and 29 miles of trail you are likely to have the forest to yourself. Be sure to wear your waterproof hiking boots as the trails can get a bit muddy. It is easy to lose yourself in the solitude of the dense second-growth forest with plenty of animal sightings to be had! Banner Forest Heritage Park was originally used by the Department of Natural Resources to generate funds for local schools through timber production and harvest, In the 1990s, a group of developers nearly bought it from DNR for a new 320-home neighborhood. Bandix Dog Park This large, lovely, park has several acres for your pooch to roam leash-free. There are lots of wooded trails marked by bone-shaped signs. Take your time exploring the area with your furry friend. If playing in a clearing is your idea of fun, there is also a nice big meadow for tossing the frisbee or sticks. Water bowls and benches are also available for a rest and recharge! Anderson Point Park On Millihanna Road in Olalla is this beautiful park that features saltwater beach access and viewpoints of Colvos Passage and Vashon Island. Peer across Colvos Passage to the east shore of Vashon Island. Or look northe, where on a clear day, Mount Baker can be seen. Keep an eye out for marine mammals such as orca whales and harbor seals, and birds like kingfishers and eagles. Bill Bloomquist Rotary Park This spacious park located near in Parkwood consists of a 12-acre park, surrounded by fencing. It is designated for baseball, softball, soccer games, and multi-use open play (first-come, first-served). No restrooms are provided. Coulter Creek Heritage Park A hidden gem kept quiet for a while, this park is rural and hidden. Plans are in the works to develop this park into a fully recreational park. This is mostly undeveloped land with no amenities. Horseshoe Lake Park Horseshoe Lake is a small, shallow Opening Day lake located south of Port Orchard. Horseshoe Lake, as its name implies, is shaped like a horse’s shoe; it features a mostly rock bottom, with spring-fed waters that remain clean and crystal clear all year-round. Situated in the heart of the Burley Creek watershed, the lake has a surface area of 40 acres and an average depth of 12 feet. Relaxing activities such as swimming, boating, golfing, horseback riding and fishing are well suited to the tranquil atmosphere so unique to Horseshoe Lake. South Kitsap Regional Park This 193-acre park includes Ball Fields (baseball / multi-use), Soccer fields, playground & open play field, Awesome Skate Park (on Lund), Picnic Shelter, picnic areas, Horseshoe Range, Batting cages, motocross biking area, and several miles of wooded walking trails. Public restrooms are open April 1st thru Sept. 30th. ~ Park is also home of a Scale Outdoor Railroad, run by Kitsap Live Steamers engineer’s group, which hosts free rides on 2nd & 4th Saturdays, weather permitting. Wynn-Jones Preserve This is a great trail tucked away in Port Orchard. The trail borders around a stream and is close to shoreline. Walk through the forest and enjoy the peace and quiet! Wicks Lake Park This 100-acre park offers freshwater access. It is located about 5.5 miles East of Belfair and is about nine acres in size. It is a shallow lake, reaching only about 8 feet in depth, yet will still deliver largemouth Bass for the fisher. For the trail walker, there are several meandering trails through the forest land on the park property. Bring your pets and explore the woods.
