Tips for a Successful Open House
An open house is a time you make your house available for viewing to prospective buyers without a scheduled appointment. You can schedule open houses at any time you choose, but Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. seem to be the most effective. Here are some quick tips for showing your home to potential buyers: Repainting the outside or inside is one of the least expensive and easiest ways to make your home look fresh again Keep small valuables hidden or out of sight Open blinds and draperies to allow in natural light Turn lights on where needed Make sure the closets are straightened and tidy Place signs in front of your house, to direct traffic Keep the garage door down Move cars out of the garage for space Sweep walk ways and driveways Empty trash cansinside Remember the importance of scent – consider burning a lightly scented candle or baking cookies Keep radios and TVs off or on low volume Make sure the front entrance is clear and inviting Make sure your family and children are out of thehouse Take pets outdoors or away with you while the house is shown
Place a guest register near the front entrance Let the buyer’s real estate professional show your home, so that the appropriate features are emphasized to the potential buyer Never allow people to walk through unsupervised Be sure that you know the location of all the keys at all times; should one be missing, change the locks as soon as possible Have a flyer printed with important facts
